Types Of Dental Braces And Their Functions

There are different types of braces singapore that are recommended to enhance teeth alignment, including:

  • traditional metal braces
  • ceramic braces
  • lingual braces
  • Invisalign

Each type is equipped with unique sets of advantages and takes considerations to decide the best treatment option for every patient.

Traditional metal braces

Traditional braces may involve brackets and wires. These are made of metal attached to the teeth, allowing the positioning to change as required. The heat-activated archwires are a new addition to traditional braces. These use body heat in the mouth, allowing the teeth to move quickly and with less discomfort than previously possible.

These braces are the least expensive option and very effective. It is one of the most common types of braces used today. But, they are noticeable types and some people feel self-conscious about their appearance. It is possible to enhance the appearance somewhat by using colored brands over the braces, making them look more attractive and even obvious.

Ceramic braces

Ceramic braces are similar to the traditional metal braces in shape and size. But, they are constructed of ceramic material blended into the natural color of the teeth, and dental braces become less noticeable. These braces are as effective as traditional braces by achieving teeth movement into desired positions, but much less noticeable due to the color. It is a more favorable alternative for people.

But, they are more expensive than traditional braces and can be stained if not properly cared for

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are similar to the traditional braces made of metal. They are attached to the inside of the teeth, they can’t be easily seen outside. Lingual braces have the obvious advantage of being invisible to other people; they are hidden behind the teeth. However, they are less effective than traditional braces and take longer to achieve desired tooth alignment. These can also be uncomfortable for patients as they are in direct contact with the tongue.

Lingual braces are more difficult to clean.

Invisalign is a unique type of brace. They don’t involve brackets and wires, but instead use a series of custom-made clear plastic aligners worn over the teeth. These aligners are removable and replaceable in a series of two weeks through the treatment. Most people require between 18 and 30 different aligners, to achieve the desired result. These braces are preferable for patients because they are almost invisible and with greater freedom to eat and drink anything.

They are considerably more expensive and used to correct minor to moderate dental problems in adults and teenagers.
